Kerry Musenbrock

Some students have an easy life when it comes to school and work, most students only have school to worry about or only work a maximum of 10 hours a week, but 20-year-old Kerry Musenbrock, a sophomore at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, is not so lucky.
Musenbrock has held a job while also maintaining a full time status as a student, working anywhere from 12 to 34 hours a week, while also keeping her GPA above a 3.0. Working hard can only prepare her for what her future holds, as she aspires to one day move to a large city to pursue her dream of writing for a major magazine.

Starting her day off early is a daily routine for this young college student, starting work at 6:00 a.m. every day of the week, followed by two classes in the afternoons. She is constantly on the go, driving to and from St. Louis and then to campus every day. “Working has never been an option for me,” Musenbrock said. “I’ve always had to pull my own weight, and make my own money.”

In addition to going to class and working she also enjoys playing indoor soccer on a coed league at the Sportsplex Center in Belleville, IL with friends, as well as running, spending time with family and friends, and just sitting in her apartment watching television. “It’s good to just be able to have other things to do besides just work and school,” Musenbrock stated. School and work may not be the most enjoyable part of her life but the hard work and dedication will pay off in the end.

Working hard and living a chaotic lifestyle is no stranger to the college sophomore, but it will only prepare her for what the future holds and push her to work hard and achieve her dream of leaving the small town to pursue big dreams.

event

The event i will be writing about is the Taste of Culture at the Morris University Center, Goshen Lounge. This is an important event because people need to learn more about where they came from and their cultures. At this event there will be dance, music, food, and trivia. I also plan on interview Lindsey Cuba, or others on the Campus Activities Board.

assignment

18 year old Thomas Schawanke was found at 7:40 A.M. this morning injured in the basement of a Southern Illinois University Edwardsville dormitory. Witnesses that had seen Schawanke earlier said he had been drinking. Police believe Schawanke fell anywhere from two to ten stories down a trash chute around 2:00 A.M. Schawanke is currently being treated at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. Hospital officials declined to talk about his condition. Mary Rouse, Dean of Students at the university said that the incident again raises concern about alcohol abuse on campus.
